KCR Demands Govt Support To Weavers: Warns Of Stir

Hyderabad, Feb.7 (NSS): The TRS chief Mr K Chandrasekhar Rao has strongly criticized the Government’s apathy towards the problems being faced by the handloom weavers in the State; and demanded a budget provision of not less than Rs.600 crores for welfare of weavers community. He also warned of action programme if their demands were not conceded by March 9.

Speaking to the media here on Monday, Mr Rao said that over 1,000 handloom workers have committed suicide in the State, and the Government should not take the handloom weavers’ problems lightly. Apart from adequate budgetary provision, medical insurance cards should be given to the handloom weavers, he said. He also demanded the revival of the silk procurement Center at Hyderabad, which was shifted to Chirala, and setting up of Silk boards at Pochampally and Gadwal.

The TRs chief said that if the Government failed to take immediate measures to extend all the necessary help to the handloom weavers, they would lay seize to the Vijayawada National highway on March 9 and give a call for Telangana bandh on March 10 (NSS)
