The Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, took exception to the Union home minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, asking political parties in the state to decide on the Telangana issue.
Mr Rao said he never expected a proficient home minister like Mr Chidambaram to make such a stupid statement in Parliament. The Centre has been empowered under Article 3 of the Constitution to bifurcate a state on administrative grounds, he said.
“If we are asked to settle the Telangana dispute among ourselves, where is the need for Mr Chidambaram. Where is the need for a Union home minister or a Central government” he asked.
“Mr Chidambaram is singing the same old tune. The situation is different now. Telangana will be achieved at any cost,” he added.
Mr Chandrasekhar Rao brushed aside the request of some leaders to postpone the Telangana agitation because of Mrs Sonia Gandhi’s sickness.
The TRS chief said that suicides by students were as important as Mrs Gandhi’s health. If the Congress fails to take a decision the people will teach them a fitting lesson in 2014.
He later spoke at a function after unveiling the bronze statue of Telangana ideologue, late prof. Jayashanker at the Telangana Bhavan. Deccan Chronicle
