Hyderabad: Congress senior leader Mr K Keshav Rao has welcomed the statement of Union Environment Minister Mr Jairam Ramesh on the Polavaram project issue.
Speaking to the media here today, Mr Keshav Rao said that while there was need for Polavaram project, alternative ways should be evolved.
In reply to questions on some of the Congress MLAs resorting to cross voting in the recent MLC elections, Mr Rao said that the PCC President Mr D Srinivas would look into the matter and take necessary action. He also refused to comment on the suspension of three TRS MLAs in connection with the MLC elections and said it was an internal affair of the TRS. He reiterated that formation of separate Telangana state was possible only with the Congress. He said that he would convey the feelings of people of the region to Mr Gulam Nabi Azad, State Congress party affairs in-charge, during the latter’s meeting with the Congress MPs to be held shortly.
LAND ALLOTMENT TO SEZS
The Congress leader was highly critical of the policy being pursued by the State Government in regard to allotment of lands to SEZs. If the same policy continued, the day is not far off when the entire Stat would be sold away to the SEZs, he felt. There is every need on the part of the Government to review is policy in regard to allocation of lands to SEZs and private companies. (NSS)
