Rajya Sabha member K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, who was the political advisor to late YSR and has been lying low ever since the sudden demise of his mentor, seems to have suddenly become active in the State Congress affairs.
This was amply evident on Monday on the occasion of the birth anniversary celebrations of late Indira Gandhi organized in the State Congress headquarters in Gandhi Bhavan and attended by senior party leaders and stalwarts besides the PCC President Mr. Botcha Satyanarayana.
Mr. Ramchandra Rao was seen busy engaged in discussions with senior leaders besides being besieged by a number of supporters and followers. He later had a closeted meeting with the PCC President in the chambers of the latter and was understood to have discussed the political developments in the state.
It might be mentioned here that Mr. Ramchandra Rao played a pivotal role during the 2009 elections by assisting the late YSR in the matter of selection of Congress nominees for the Lok Sabha and Assembly seats. Thus as an insider in the pick and choose of the party nominees, he is placed in a better position to gauge the pulse and mood of the sitting members and also the chances of new candidates over the sitting members in the event of any likely changes in the list.
Thus the meeting of the APCC President and Mr. Ramchandra Rao assumed considerable political significance at a time when the central leadership of the party is determined to prepare the cadre in all the states to ready for the battle royal scheduled for 2014. His active participation in the party affairs on eve of the polls in the state might also help checkmate the moves of YSRCP by planning the required counter moves. (NSS)
