Hyderabad: The national BJP leader, Mr Bandaru Dattatreya, here on Sunday condemned the “anti-Telangana” remarks made by the Congress MP from Vijayawada, Mr Lagadapati Rajagopal. Describing the remarks of the MP against the self-respect of Telangana region as highly reprehensible, the former Union minister said that Mr Rajagopal was a senseless political broker.
Mr Dattatreya was speaking at the Liberty Circle in the heart of the city where his party has organised “Vanta-Varpu” programme as part of the agitation for separate Telangana. He supervised the arrangements for cooking food for over 1,000 persons.
Referring to Mr Lagadapati’s statement that the Congress would win not less than 245 seats if Assembly elections were called, Mr Dattatreya said that the ruling party would not even get 45 seats. He also warned that the Congress leaders would not be allowed to move in the Telangana region if they failed to extend support to State bifurcation. He also demanded that the Congress high command declare its policy on Telangana officially.
Alleging that the police have refused permission to put up a tent at the Vanta-Varpu programme, the BJP leader said that the ruling party would not have a tent if it tried to suppress the agitation. He also alleged that the city police were trying to suppress the peaceful “Vanta-Varpu” agitation by arm-twisting methods. Stating that the Telangana agitation would not stop with the “Vanta-Varpu” agitation, the former Union minister said there would be more agitational programmes in the coming days.
