Leaders should jump into Hussain Sagar on Telangana, not students: Surekha

Hyderabad: Stating that Yadireddy’s suicide was the “last suicide for Telangana,” Congress party MLA from Parakal Konda Surekha on Sunday demanded that all leaders from the region stop provoking students to end their own lives for the cause of separate Telangana statehood.

Talking to media persons at Assembly Media Point, the firebrand MLA also targeted Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao for making provocative speeches and indirectly exhorting people to commit suicides. She asked all leaders not to make provocative speeches and put a full stop to suicides.

Ms Surekha called upon Telangana leaders to be ready to jump into Hussain Sagar in the event of Centre takes unfavourable decision on controversial statehood issue, instead of the students committing suicides.

“Yadireddy’s suicide was the last one for the Telangana,” Ms Surekha said.

Condemning the attack on Special Officer on Duty Chander Rao at AP Bhavan by TRS leader Harish Rao, she asked the Telangana leaders to stop violence and make concrete efforts towards achieving statehood.

She also accused Congress In-Charge of State Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad of conspiring with Seemandhra leaders in the name of discussions on the issue. Ms Surekha alleged that Mr Azad is adopting a ‘divide and rule policy’ in the name of talks and enacting a drama.

The Congress MLA, known to be a staunch supporter of YSR Congress Party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy, asked leaders not to believe Mr Azad but instead agitate relentlessly for Telangana statehood.

Slamming Speaker Nadendla Manohar for rejecting resignations of Telangana leaders ‘hastily,’ without taking their opinions, Ms Konda Surekha termed it as `unilateral’ and ‘unconstitutional.’

Ms Surekha condemned the Speaker for stating that the Legislators’ had taken the decision to resign in a emotionally surcharged atmosphere.

She reminded that the Telangana people have been agitating for the separate statehood since the past two years and in order to fulfil the people aspirations, the Telangana elected representatives tendered their resignations.

She said that all leaders had thought over before taking a decision on resignations.

“Bowing to pressure tactics of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the Speaker enacting this drama,” Ms Surekha said. The Parakal MLA also wondered why the TRS leaders were not staging dharna in front of residence Ms Sonia Gandhi.

She also found fault in the Ministers submitting resignations from their Assembly seats and but not resigning from their Cabinet posts. She demanded the Ministers press for acceptance of resignations with Governor ESL Narasimhan.(INN)
