Hyderabad: The city mafia is said to have links with the big names of the underworld, Dawood Ibrahim and Chota Shakeel.

Ali Sayeed Ali, 38, a resident of Hafeezbaba Nagar is an active associate of Chota Shakeel. Sayeed organises international calls to terrorise and threaten to kidnap and kill his targets.

His warning signal to his intended victim is damaging vehicles and killing the victim’s pets. The gang is involved in several cases of extortion, but the victims are not willing to inform against him. “On instructions of Chota Shakeel, Sayeed came to Hyderabad and was his resident agent here, executing operations. He identified two persons Omer and Ahmed of the city, who are about to be confirmed on Pagar (pay list) of Chota Shakeel’s gang,” a Task Force official said. “Ali Bhai alias Abed Hussain, 34, a native of Zaheerabad in Medak district, is involved in several cases of kidnap for ransom. Ali Bhai operated out of Dubai where he masterminded several sensational kidnappings. He uses a satellite phone and is closely linked to Qayuum, a native of Mumbai and resident of Dubai, who is an active member of Dawood Ibrahim’s gang.”

Then there is Patlolla Goverdhan Reddy of the Revolutionary Patriotic Tigers, which is responsible for several murders, kidnappings and extortion. Police sources say that they claim to have a left-wing ideology but tie up with other gangs as and when need arises. Presently they have tied up with Ali Bhai’s gang. They had planned to abduct the Country Club chairman, Mr Rajeev Reddy, to demand a ransom of Rs 20 crore.

Mohammed Rafiuddin alias Zakir of Tolichowki is a native of Jagityal in Karimnagar and is involved in extortions in the city. His wife Zaherunnisa is also a member of the gang. The gang contacts the intended target on a landline phone, and claims to be one Sudarshan Anna or Santosh Anna, district commander of the People’s War. They tell their target that they have received a complaint that he is corrupt. The gang has extorted huge amounts from doctors, bank officers, businessmen and others in various districts of the state in this way.

Zakir’s gang has threatened more than 1,000 persons from Srikakulam to Adilabad and extorted Rs 60 lakh from 80 persons by putting the fear of death in them, said the police. The Sheru-Lateef gang led by 27-year-old Syed Munawaruddin of New Mallepally is also involved in extortion. The Jado Dawed gang led by Mohamed Jawed Khan of Shaheen Nagar is involved in more than 20 cases of extortion, murder and kidnapping.

Najaf Ali, a resident of Aliyabad, is a rowdy-sheeter and is involved in more than 40 criminal cases. There is bad blood between him and Ayub Khan and Fayaz. The gangs are continuously planning to eliminate their rivals. Deccan Chronicle
