Hyderabad: Confusion reigned at the start of the seventh Session of the 13th Legislative Assembly, so much so that the MLAs, including Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Leader of the Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu were seen sitting even as the National Anthem started to be played inside the House.
Pro-tem Speaker JC Diwakar Reddy noticed the inadvertent error by most of the Members and alerted the Members who seemingly did not notice that the National Anthem was being played.
The prompting by the Pro-tem Speaker immediately had the desired effect and the Legislators stood up in respect of the National Anthem, which was restarted.
Later, Mr Diwakar Reddy was taken to task by Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu for ‘forgetting’ to announce his party candidate K E Krishnamurthy for the Speaker’s post.
Mr Naidu condemned the Pro-tem Speaker’s ‘unilateral’ decision and voiced his strong objects.
Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy intervened and this prompted Mr Diwakar Reddy to admit his mistake and announce the name of Mr Krishnamurthy as the opposition candidate.
Mr Naidu also objected to Mr Diwakar Reddy’s sudden decision to conduct the election for the Speaker’s post through an open ballot method instead of secret ballot method as per the notification issued earlier.(INN)
