Mild tension prevailed in Amberpet on Sunday afternoon when people belonging to a particular community took out a rally with an intention to claim ownership of a government land in Venkat Reddy Nagar by putting up religious flags. At around 1.45 pm, according to the Uppal police, about 200 people belonging to the community from Patel Nagar and other surrounding colonies in Amberpet took out a bike rally carrying religious flags. The intention of the people participating in the rally reportedly was to reach a 200-square yard government land in Venkat Reddy Nagar and put up flags there. Police said the land was in dispute since a long time despite revenue officials declaring it as a government property.

The rally was intercepted by police in Venkat Reddy Nagar and the participants tried to protest. Meanwhile on hearing about the rally, about 50 people from the other community also gathered at the site. Sensing trouble, police quickly dispersed the mob by threatening to arrest them. “We have not booked any cases or arrested anyone with regard to the incident,” ACP, Malkajgiri, P Radha- kishan Rao said.TOI
