The minority welfare department (MWD) will be holding a meeting with the State Wakf Board soon to find out how best the critical issue of the board and the government laying claim to the same properties could be resolved.
According to sources, most of the wakf properties have either been taken over by the government or it has laid claim on them. “The SWB and the revenue departments have to be reconciled. This is one of the most crucial areas one has to tread on. We will try to work out a way to tackle this problem,” Mohammed Ali Rafat who took over as the new secretary of the MWD said.
Interacting briefly with the media after taking charge from Lingaraj Panigrahi, Rafat said one among his priorities would be to find out in what stage the implementation of the Sachar Committee Report recommendations are. Many socio-economic problems faced by minorities could be solved if the government welfare schemes are properly implemented. TOI
