Hyderabad, Feb.21 (NSS): TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu has urged the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, to immediately release Rs 22-crore subsidy towards HSD used by fishermen for their mechanized fishing boats since two-and-a-half years.

Mr Naidu, in a letter to the Chief Minister, pointed out that the neighboring Maharashtra government was giving Rs 90 crores as subsidy to fishermen and the State government would do well if it releases at least Rs 10 crores immediately. He also asked the Chief Minister to include the subsidy amount in the budget so that it could be released on time.

The former chief minister also drew the attention of the Chief Minister about the apprehensions of the fishing communities about the provisions in the Coastal Regulation Zone Notification 2011 which failed to offer greater protection to the coastal eco-system to recognize the inalienable right of fishing communities to their habitats and their right to representation in the proposed Coastal Zone Management Authority (CZMA). He also urged the Chief Minister to have the issue examined in detail and advise the central government to address to it. (NSS)
