Hyderabad: TDP Chief Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu has emanded that amendments be made to the Land Acquisition Act, to protect the rights of the poor farmers.
Talking to a delegation of farmers of Tadepalli Mandal of Guntur district, led by Mr Darapuneni Narendra Babu, Mr Yedlapalli Madhu, Mr. Kallam Siva Reddy, Mr. Vuyyuru Srinu and others, Mr. Naidu said his party would stand by the farmers and fight for their rights. The farmers have complained that agriculture lands in Penumaka, Undavalli and other villages were being forcefully acquired by the government.
Mr. Naidu, while demanding that the government should immediately withdraw the notification it had issued for the acquisition of these lands and denotify them. He has faulted the government for acquiring valuable agriculture lands. He said the companies to which these lands were being given were using only a part of the lands for setting up industries and doing real estate business with the rest. He said the government had given away valuable lands in the name of SEZs and had created a situation where lands were unavailable for the present and future needs. He has criticized that the government was even depriving the birds of their habitat apart from endangering the drinking and irrigation water sources. He said that the Congress government has forcefully acquired one lakh acres of valuable agriculture land and doled it away to their henchmen in the name of industrial development. He has also alleged that those in the government had done land business in the name of Science Cities, Knowledge Parks, Ports and IT Parks. He said though some industries were not set up even after crossing the deadline given to them, the government was not taking any steps to take back the lands given to them.
