Bharatiya Janata Party State president and legislator G Kishan Reddy said it’s high time the Centre took favourable decision on Telangana.

Mr. Kishan Reddy was speaking at a banquet meeting “Telangana Agitation – current political trends”, organized by the Telangana Development Forum (Detroit Chapter) at the Community Centre here on Friday.

Mr. Reddy castigated the UPA Government, particularly UPA chairperson Ms. Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for remaining mute spectators and letting the situation go out of control.

He said over the last two years, the Telangana movement in Andhra Pradesh had been peaceful despite “government repression”. “This is an era of democratic movements across the globe and the governments have to learn to respect the sentiments and aspirations of the people,” he remarked.

Promising that his party will play a more proactive role, both at the State and Central levels, in support of the just cause, Mr. Kishan Reddy said the people of Telangana are fully prepared to face the oppression and achieve their goal. “No power on the earth can stop Telangana being a reality soon,” he declared amid thunderous applause of the 150-odd gathering.

The BJP leader, who reminded his party’s concept of smaller states was a sure recipe for success, urged the Congress and Telugu Desam Party leaders from Andhra and Rayalaseema to see reason and mutually benefit from the split. “Separate Telangana means all-round development of all three regions in the State,” he said.

The young leader criticized that the ‘Samaikhyandhra’ movement was government-sponsored and built on deceit and misinformation campaign by political leaders from Seema-Andhra region who have business interests in Hyderabad. He urged the people of Andhra and Rayalaseema to realize the ground reality and help Telangana come out of the “forceful marriage.”

Earlier, the meeting mourned the death of TDF founder president and Telangana ideologue, Prof Jayashankar, Yadi Reddy, latest among the 600-odd who gave up their lives for Telangana, and the victims of the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
