Hyderabad: Making it clear that the Telangana Congress leaders will not go back on their resignations, the senior leader, Dr K Keshava Rao, has demanded that the State government announce ex gratia to the families of students who self-immolated and committed suicide demanding separate Telangana.
Speaking to the media at his residence here on Sunday, Dr Keshava Rao said that the Telangana movement would continue peacefully. He said that the Telangana Congress leaders were ready to work with other political parties and JACs to achieve separate Telangana. He added that they were not against anybody. Making it clear that their resignations were not for blackmailing, he said newly launched Telangana Congress Core Committee meeting will be held on Monday. He said that the Telangana Congress leaders have tendered their resignations only to take the movement to Delhi. He also said the other reason for their resignations was to avoid violence.
Ridiculing the City Police Commissioner, Mr A K Khan’s statement that there was no permission for the proposed Osmania University students’ mass fast-unto-death program from July 11, Dr Keshava Rao said students were still committing suicides for separate Telangana State. He asked the Chief Minister and the Director General of Police as to why they were not thinking about suicides of Telangana students. He reiterated his demand that the State government give ex gratia to the families of those students who committed suicides.
Alleging that the State government was provoking the students by deploying Central paramilitary forces heavily in the Telangana region, Dr Keshava Rao said it was not proper to the Chief Minister to try to influence the resigned Telangana leaders. He made it clear that the Telangana movement will continue till the separate State goal was achieved.
On the other hand, the resigned Telangana Congress MLC, Mr K Yadava Reddy, has said the Congress Action Forum for Telangana would organize a meeting with the resigned public representatives, including DCC presidents, ZP Chairmen and others at Exhibition Grounds on Monday. He said the meeting would chalk out an action plan to strengthen the Telangana movement at village level.
