City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma today said that the East Zone task force team has arrested a notorious chain snatcher and recovered Rs 30 lakh worth articles, including one kg gold ornaments, from him.
Addressing a press conference, Mr Sharma said the task force team along with the staff of Saidabad Police station were conducting vehicle checking at Saidabad X Roads in the city when they apprehended Mohd Akheeluddin alias Khalifa, who had committed 27 cases of Chain snatching in Hyderabad and Cyberabad areas.
Besides two daggers, two LCDs, bike and a car, police also recovered about one kg of gold ornaments from the 19-year-old notorious chain snatcher of Chandrayangutta located at old city, he said.
During interrogation, it came to light that the accused Akheeluddin, who studied upto Intermediate, came in contact with one chain snatcher Syed Hussain alias Lamba and together they started chain snatchings, he said.
Aqueeluddin was arrested by Chaderghat Police in December, 2012. But after being released from jail in January, 2013, he committed chain snatching along with his associates Syed Hussain and Ahad in Hyderabad City and Cyberabad areas.
However, Syed Hussain, resident of Basarath Nagar, Jahanuma, in the city (Previously arrested by Mahankali Police station) and 17-year-old Ahad, who were involved in 27 chain snatching cases , were absconding, the commissioner added
