Hyderabad: Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday caught red-handed a Section Officer in the Secretariat while demanding and accepting Rs 5,000 bribe from a freedom fighter for movement of his pension file.
Acting on a compliant from a native of Warangal district, Mr Katti Janardhan, the ACB officials conducted the raid and caught the Section Officer A B N Swamy red handed while he was accepting the bribe. The accused was working as Section Officer in the Endowment (Revenue) department whose office is located on the sixth floor in the L Block of Secretariat.
Mr Katti Janardhan was a freedom fighter of Telangana Liberation movement. His name was in the list of 13,500 persons recommended by then MLA, Mr Ch Rajeshwara Rao in 1997 for freedom fighter pension.
The Section Officer allegedly demanded Rs 5,000 bribe from the freedom fighter to clear his pension file. Unable to digest it, Mr Janardhan approached the ACB.
