Hyderabad: Peaceful atmosphere in the Old City of Hyderabad suddenly turned tense on Tuesday once again when the officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation attempted to demolish “Omar Hotel” building belonging to Mohd Pahelwan in Chandrayangutta area.

Contending that the Hotel building was constructed in violation of rules, a demolition squad of the GHMC surrounded the building and attempted to pull it down the structure. However, a large number of supporters of Mr Mohd Pahelwan rushed to the spot and obstructed the attempts of the demolition squad. They alleged that the GHMC officials were trying to pull down Omar Hotel building as part of vindictive action of the ruling clique of the GHMC.

Realizing that the situation has turned tense, the GHMC officials requisitioned for a strong contingent of police. However, the Deputy Commissioner of Police concerned sent back police personnel when the hotel owner’s supporters pleaded with him to wait till the court delivered its judgment on the case between the hotel management and the GHMC.

With this, the GHMC authorities have reportedly decided to wait and comply with the court orders.
