Only 52 cases against students dropped: HM

Hyderabad: Though the State government has assured to withdraw all the cases registered against the students during the Telangana movement, it withdrew only 52 cases so far.

Responding to the question raised by the CPI MLAs, including the floor leader, Mr G Mallesh, Mr V Yadagiri Rao, Mr K Sambasiva Rao and Ms B Chandravathi, on Thursday in the Assembly, the Home Minister, Ms Sabitha Indra Reddy, in a written reply, stated that out of 1,005 cases filed against the students all over the State, 963 cases were filed against the students in the Telangana region, 21 cases each in Andhra and Seemandhra regions. Out of them, the State government has withdrawn only 52 cases.

It may be recalled that the Telangana Congress MPs went on hunger strike demanding withdrawal of cases against the students. Responding to the fast, the government had announced that it would withdraw all the cases soon. But according to the Home Minister, only 52 cases were withdrawn so far. (NSS)
