Hyderabad: Maintaining that it was for the Congress party to clear its stand in unambiguous terms over the separate Telangana statehood demand, senior TDP leader and Telangana Forum convenor Errabelli Dayakar Rao maintained that his party’s stand has been acknowledge by leaders like K Kesava Rao and Ponnam Prabhakar.
“The TDP’s stand on Telangana is clear and the party has even passed a resolution at the party’s annual conclave, ‘Mahandu’ and in the letter submitted to Congress Core Committee member Pranab Mukherjee. Even the Congress leaders from the Telangana region, including K Kesav Rao and Ponnam Prabhakar, have acknowledged this fact,” Mr Dayakar Rao said.
He further demanded that Congress party clarify its stand in unambiguous terms over Telangana issue and not to target the TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu.
Mr Dayakar Rao was speaking to media persons after the Forum members met on Sunday morning at TDLP office in Assembly premises to finalise the course of action for separate Telangana state.
The Telangana Telugu Desam Party Forum on Sunday announced that leaders from other parties, besides serving and former Legislators would participate in its two-day dharna to be held at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on August 11 and 12.
Mr Dayakar Rao said their main demand was to press for tabling the Telangana Bill in the Monsoon Session of the Parliament, conducting Sub-Inspector of police examinations only after deleting Clause 14 F, and withdrawal of cases filed during Telangana agitation.
The TDP leader also criticized Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao who had said that Telangana would come in 2014. “How can the TRS, which is spearheading a campaign for the past ten years, is still saying that Telangana to come in 2014,” Mr Dayakar Rao said.
He added that Telangana should be formed in two three months time only. “The people would not tolerate any further delay,” Mr Dayakar Rao said.
Mr Dayakar Rao suggested that soon after the return of the Speaker from his foreign tour, all the Legislators, including that of Congress, should submit their resignations afresh.
“Only the resignations of the Congress Legislators would be beneficial. The other resignations would be more or less redundant,” he said.
The TDP leader revealed that the Forum has demanded that the Chief Minister make efforts for deletion of Clause 14 F during its meeting today.
Meanwhile the Forum leaders called on party chief N Chandrababu Naidu at his residence here last evening and discussed the situation in the wake of Union home minister P Chidambaram’s statement in the Lok Sabha on Friday.
“We discussed the matter with Mr Naidu. He directed us to go our own way. We are for Telangana state and plan our agitation accordingly,” Mr Dayakar Rao said.(INN)
