Hyderabad: Mohammed bin Omar Al-Yafai alias Mohammed Pahelwan, the alleged mastermind behind the attack on MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, said in his reported confession to police that he and some of his family members and a friend had plotted to kill the legislator two weeks before the assault.
Pahelwan named the persons who were present at the meeting that took place at a function hall in his recorded statement. They are his brother Hasan and nephews Awad, Abdullah, Esa, Yahiya, Ibrahim, Afif, Mohammed Saleh Wahlan, brothers-in-law Fazal and Faisal and a friend and business partner Munawwar Iqbal. Iqbal, Pahelwan said, advised and encouraged them to execute the plan.
Giving details of the attempts by Akbaruddin to acquire his land in the past, Pahelwan mentioned an incident where the MLA had picked a fight with his elder brother Younus in the presence of RR district Collector at Gurram Cheruvu. Akbaruddin had threatened that he wont allow Younus family to live in peace. The family members met the next day and decided to eliminate Akbaruddin.
Pahelwan reportedly told investigators that on the day of the attack Akbaruddin again made provocative gestures. When the boys told him about the incident over the phone, Pahelwan reportedly gave the go ahead to attack Akbaruddin. By the time he reached the spot, the assault was over and he was told that while attacking Akbaruddin, his nephews Ibrahim, Awad and Abdullah were shot at by the gunman of MIM MLA Ahmed Balala and were shifted to Yashoda Hospital.
I went to the hospital to see them. The police came and arrested me there, he said. Pahelwan also reportedly confessed to killing one Abdullah Gunnain in 1992 over a land deal. TOI
