Hyderabad: The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) on Saturday urged the Election Commission to prevent the YSR Congress Party president, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy, from using the picture of late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in his election campaigning.
A delegation of PCC leaders met the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Mr Banwarlal in the Secretariat and submitted a memorandum in this regard.
The Coordinator of PCC Election Control Room and Convener of PCC Legal Cell, Mr B Srinivas Goud, said that the Independent candidate in Kadapa Parliamentary constituency, Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is contesting with “Ceiling Fan” symbol was atrociously, unconstitutionally and unethically displaying photographs of late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, who was a prominent leader of the Congress party, in his campaigning through posters, banners and other media. The late leader had no history of using such a symbol like “ceiling fan” in his electoral contests and his untimely death had occurred when he was chief minister on behalf of Indian National Congress, he reminded.
“This serious and genuinely requires evaluation by the Election Commission of India of such mis-utilization of photographs of such prominent leaders against their political background by such Independent candidates for their selfish benefit. This type of wrong use of photographs would create indecent precedents and would tarnish the image of departed leaders”, he added.
He also alleged that Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy fielded persons like Mr Suresh Babu, Mr Shiva Shanker Reddy and Mr D Krishna (Mangali Krishna) as Independent candidates to take advantage of the facilities like vehicles and personal passes of the candidates and election agents.
Referring to the criminal background of Mangali Krishna and others, he said that they whipped up terror in the voters. It was learnt that the vehicles of such non-serious candidates were having flags of ceiling fan symbol and campaigning for Mr Jagan, he added.
“We will also complain to the Chief Election Commissioner in New Delhi on the matter:, he added.
The PCC vice-president, Mr Madasu Gangadhar and the general secretaries, Mr Rudraraju Padma Raju, Mr Gidugu Rudra Raju and Mr Srinivas Goud were present. (NSS)
