Hyderabad: The Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today announced that all cash awards pending to the national and international medal winners from Andhra Pradesh will be cleared immediately. He has agreed to present cash awards to these sports persons who brought glory to the State at a function to be held shortly. The total cost of cash awards pending is about Rs.4 crores. The Chief Minister also sanctioned construction of mini stadia/complexes in each Mandal Headquarters and asked the department to write to the district collectors concerned to identify suitable land to the extent of 5 to 7.5 acres for such mini stadia. The Chief Minister said that these mini stadia complexes should have all facilities like main indoor games such as tennis, tenni-coit, ball badminton, gym etc. and volleyball, basketball, kabaddi kho-kho courts, 3 step galleries, change rooms, toilets and it should have running track and also if possible walking tracks.
The Chief Minister today held a detailed review meeting on sports and youth services with ministers and officials at Secretariat. Meanwhile out of 1122 Mandals in the State, the SAAP has started construction of mini/indoor stadia in 41 Mandal Headquarters, however these projects could not be completed. The Chief Minister agreed to provide additional funds for completion of these stadia. And the Chief Minister today agreed for construction of mini stadia/complexes in the remaining 1081 mandals.
The Chief Minister also agreed for filling up all the strength in the Sports Schools in the State such as Andhra Pradesh Sports School, Hakimpet, Regional Sports School, Kadapa and Karimnagar, Regional Sports Hostels in Guntur, Tirupati and Warangal and 8 Sports Academies in the State and Centre for Excellence for Volleyball at Lal Bahadur stadium. The total strength of these schools and hostels are 1540. The Chief Minister agreed to provide the required funds.
The Chief Minister also agreed to make use of the Sports Tower at Gachchibowli which can generate funds for sports and also to pay the bank loans and other dues used for its construction. This tower was built during World Military games and it is not fully completed. The Government have also agreed to amend the GO so as to enable allotment of sports stadia and other sports infrastructure for non sporting events/activities on certain conditions. This will help in generation of revenues for better operation and maintenance of sports infrastructure and sports promotion.
The Chief Minister also agreed to hike the wages of sports coaches and this will be announced shortly. As far as youth activities are concerned, the Chief Minister said that the Rajiv Education and Employment Mission to provide jobs and skill development to 15 lakh youth on a mission mode will be launched on the Birthday of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on August 20.
Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Vatti Vasantha Kumar, Minister for Finance, Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, Principal Secretary, Sports and Youth Services, Chellappa, Director, Sports and Youth Affairs, Shashi Bhushan Kumar, Secretary, Finance, T Satyanarayana and other officials attended the meeting.
