Hyderabad: The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, on Saturday disclosed that making plantation of five trees mandatory for cutting one tree was under examination of the State government.
The Chief Minister formally launched 62nd “Vanamahostavam” by planting a sapling at Medipally on the city outskirts. The Tree Planitation programme was taken up in 135 acres of land at Medipally village.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy said that as a social responsibility, every person should plant at least five plants that would help increase the greenery area and control environmental pollution. The State government was seriously examining to bring a rule mandating plantation of five trees for cutting of each standing tree. The government was also contemplating to make it compulsory while giving permission for house construction that house owners should maintain greenery in some area of roof top. He opined that taking up greenery programmes in the rapid growing cities would help control levels of pollution. The government has prepared master plan to develop infrastructure in tune with the expansion of Greater Hyderabad. The government was planning to develop Medipalli reserve forest area on the lines of Kasu Brahmananda Reddy Park and bring it to the availability of the people.
Underlining the need to create awareness among the public, particularly students, the Chief Minister said the people should also take care until growth of the plant. He also announced that an action plan was prepared for development of social forestry at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crores under NREGP.
The Minister for Forsets, Mr Shatrucharla Vijayarama Rao, said the human-beings will be in peril if the people neglected the environment. Hence, there was a dire need to give top priority to the environmental protection, he added.
The Chief Conservator of Forests, Mr Madhukar Raje, the Home Minister, Ms Sabitha Indra Reddy, the MLAS — Mr Koona Srisailam Goud, Mr Bikshapathi Yadav, Mr Bandaru Raji Reddy, the MLCs — Mr Ranga Reddy, Mr Janardhan Reddy, the Cyberabad Police Commissioner, Mr Tirumala Rao, and others attended the programme.
