New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Member K Kesava Rao on Thursday stated that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh assured the delegation of Telangana Congress leaders that their demand was ‘just’ and he would take a decision on the separate Telangana statehood demand ‘soon’ after discussing the contentious issue with the Congress Core Committee.
Talking to media persons after emerging out of the crucial meeting with the Prime Minister, Mr Kesava Rao revealed that Dr Manmohan Singh had given the delegation a patient hearing.
The Rajya Sabha Member revealed that the Telangana leaders had insisted that the Prime Minister must stand by the December 9, 2009 statement made by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Telangana.
Mr Kesava Rao further quoted the Telangana leaders telling the Prime Minister that they were not in a position to return to their constituencies with empty hands.
The leaders also explained to the Dr Manmohan Singh about the difficulty they would face in continuing with the posts as elected representatives if the Telangana issue drags on further.
Mr Kesava Rao further stated that the Prime Minister admitted that their demand for Telangana is just and he would take a decision after discussing the contentious issue with the Congress Core Committee.
The 25-members delegation comprised of MPs, Ministers, MLAs and MLCs. The meeting lasted about half-an-hour.
Mr Kesava Rao emphatically appealed the media not to publish distorted reports which could hurt the sentiments of the Telangana people.(INN)
