Hyderabad: The Banswada MLA, Mr Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, submitted his resignation letter to the Deputy Speaker, Mr Nadendla Manohar, on Friday. Mr Reddy requested Mr Manohar to allow him to speak in the Assembly.

Speaking at the Assembly media point later, Mr Srinivas Reddy said that the public representatives of the Telangana region should realise at least now after seeing his resignation and fight for separate Telangana State. Recalling suicides of the students for the sake of Telangana, Mr Reddy burst into tears and said that the people of the region would teach a fitting lesson to the leaders if they failed to participate in the movement. Pointing out that the employees and students were actively participating in the movement, he opined that separate Telangana State would be carved out if all the Telangana people’s representatives submitted their resignations en masse.

Mr Reddy said that he was constrained to leave the TDP as it not only failed to make its stand clear on Telangana but also was deceiving the people. Reminding that he had announced on January 3 this year that he was leaving the TDP, he said that he resigned to the party respecting the Telangana people’s interests though he had won the election on TDP symbol. He also alleged that the TDP was not speaking anything now though it has announced that it would support the government during Mr Rosaiah government if the latter introduced a resolution on Telangana in the Assembly, he added.

Demanding the leaders to decide whether they would continue to hoodwink the people or plunge into the movement, Mr Srinivas Reddy said that the names of those who fought for Telangana and who were sticking to their posts would be published in the academic books after formation of Telangana. “One has to fight for the sake of Telangana to protect self-respect of the people, he added. He said that every party and every leader were deceiving the people by assuring formation of separate State. The Congress in 2004 and the TDP in 2009 went back on Telangana issue,” he said, adding that the TDP aired “cock and bull stories” on Telangana.

Stating that there was no need to take cognizance of the allegations against the TRS, which alone was working for Telangana State, he said that it was good to the dynasty having no ‘King’ than having an inefficient ‘King’. He said that all parties made assurances on Telangana till the last elections and forgot the people after the elections. He said that he was fighting for the sake of Telangana in protest against the attitude of State and the Central governments.

Earlier, Mr Srinivas Reddy paid tributes to the Telangana Martyrs at Gun Park and came to the Assembly in a rally along with the TRS MLAs, Mr Etela Rajender, Mr T. Harish Rao, Mr K T Ramarao, Mr Sammaiah, Mr Ch Ramesh and others. (NSS)
