Tension prevailed on the Osmania University campus on Monday when pro-Telangana students hurled stones at the police, as the latter stopped them from taking out a rally to Raj Bhavan demanding introduction of Telangana Bill in Parliament and opposing Centre’s move to transfer law and order in Hyderabad to the Governor.
Police lobbed teargas shells to disperse the agitating students, who assembled at NCC gate, and took some students into custody.
There were heated arguments between the students and police officials when the former prevented them from proceeding further at NCC gate.
A contingent of security personnel was deployed at NCC gate.
On the hand, responding to the call of students unions to lay a siege to the Raj Bhavan, another group of students attempted to storm the Raj Bhavan. However, the Panjagutta police rushed to the spot and took the students into custody and whisked away to the police station. OU Students union leader K. Srinivas Goud was among those arrested. (NSS)
