Hyderabad: The Communist Party of India activists and farmers made an attempt to lay a siege to the Emmar Properties at Nanakramguda, here on Monday.

A large number of CPI workers, accompanied by farmers from whom the State government had acquired the land, could not enter the property area as the police deployed there as a precautionary measure foiled their move. As a result, skirmishes took place between the cops and the CPI activists.

On the other hand, the police have arrested a large number CPI activists and farmers at Gachchibowli, Madapur, Nanakramguda and Rayadurgam while they were proceeding towards the site of Emmar properties. Notwithstanding it, a large number of activists escaped the sight of police and reached the gate of Emmar Properties from different routes. The activists, who managed to reach the place, were locked in quarrel with the police and staged dharna in front of gate. (NSS)
