Hyderabad: The AICC secretary and MLC, Mr Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, has urged the State government to order a thorough inquiry into the illegal mining in Bayyaram and Garla areas in Khammam district. He also demanded that the State government initiate criminal action against the officials who have supported the illegal mining and warned that he would intensify the movement against illegal mining in the State.

Speaking at the Assembly media point here on Monday, Mr Ponguleti said that he and the Government Chief Whip, Mr Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, the MP, Mr Balaram Naik, the MLA, Mr Mithra Sen, and Khammam local leaders organised a ‘Mines Protections Padayatra’ in Khammam district on May 7. He said that they found the illegal mining of Bauxite, Barytes, Dolomite and lime stone with benami names in notified areas of tribes. He said that they visited Garla, Seripuram, Pocharam and Bayyaram areas and submitted a preliminary report to the district Collector. He also said that even RDO and MRO have clearly declared that Seripuram and Pocharam areas were under the notified area. Illegal mining was taking place in Ballepally till date even though the lease was canceled in 2005, he added.

Stating that he had submitted a full report to the Chief Minister, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy, he said that the Chief Minister assured him of detailed inquiry into illegal mining. He said that he also demanded the Chief Minister to recover money earned through illegal mining under Revenue Recovery Act seizing their bank accounts.

He demanded that the State government cancel recognition of Anne Besant B.Ed College, where the student Ms Sarika murder took place. He also demanded the government to initiate action against the college management as no body should commit such crime in future.

Responding to a query, Mr Ponguleti said that he would ask the Director General of Police to act in accordance with the assurance given by the State government regarding ‘free zone’ instead of conducting the exam for SI posts. (NSS)
