Hyderabad: Suspected pro-Telangana activists continued their opposition to Congress leaders visiting Warangal to pay their last respects to Telangana ideologue K Jayashankar, by attacking the convoy of Textiles Minister P Shankar Rao on Wednesday.
Dr Shankar’s convoy was stopped and attacked when he arrived in Hanmakonda to pay his respects to the late Jayashankar by irate pro-Telangana activists who demanded that he resign from the Cabinet to support the separate statehood movement.
The activists raised ‘Jai Telangana’ slogans and pelted stones and chappals at Dr Shankar Rao’s convoy, breaking the glass of the Ministers’ car.
However, the Minister escaped any physical harm when the police intervened and escorted him to safety.
Earlier on Tuesday, suspected pro-Telangana activists had attacked and heckled MPs Rajaiah and G Vivek when they had gone to Hanmakonda to pay their last respects to Professor Jayashankar.
The protestors are accusing the leaders of the ruling Congress and the main opposition Telugu Desam Party of resorting to delaying tactics in the creation of Telangana.(INN)
