New Delhi: The PRP President Mr Chiranjeevi has announced that a public meeting to formalize his party’s merger in Congress would be organized in the third week of next month.
He informed the media here on Monday that AICC state affairs in charge Mr. Gulam Nabi Azad has told him that it would be better if the meeting was organized after the assembly elections in Tamilnadu. He said Congress president Ms. Sonia Gandhi might attend the merger meeting.
Chiranjeevi who has air- dashed to New Delhi following a call from the Congress high command, confirmed that he would be campaigning for the Congress party in Tamilnadu, Pondychery, Kerala and West Bengal. He said he would participate in the campaign in Tamilnadu before April 11. He said he has become a member of the Congress party as he has decided to merge his party, and he would abide by all the directions of Congress.
He said Congress leaders have thanked him for deciding to merge his party. He said apart from campaigning in the states going to polls, the Congress leaders had also asked him to help in strengthening the party in Andhra Pradesh. Accepting their request, he said he told them he would strive his best to strengthen the party.
When asked about the prospect of his party being invited to join the cabinet, he said it was not discussed in his meetings.
Chiranjeevi said he would be meeting the Minister for Environment Mr. Jairam Ramesh on the issue of according national status to Polavaram and Chevella projects.
On the MLC elections, he said his party members had voted as per the directions of the Chief Minister Mr. N. Kirankumar Reddy.
Chiranjeevi has met Azad and Sonia Gandhi’s political adviser Ahmed Patel on Monday morning. He spent a busy day here.
Meanwhile, the meeting of state MPs with Azad scheduled for March 22 and 23 have been postponed. The meetings are now likely on 25 and 26. (NSS)
