Hyderabad, February 5: The former Union minister, Mr P. Shiv Shanker, on Saturday said that the proposed merger of the Praja Rajyam party of the former megastar Mr K Chiranjeevi, would be a great blow to the Congress party.
Speaking to mediapersons at his Jubilee Hills residence here, Mr Shiv Shankar said that Mr Chiranjeevi was not fit to be a chief ministerial candidate in the Congress party. He also said that the Praja Rajyam party had lost its credibility when the film star and his brother-in-law, Mr Allu Aravind, resorted to sale of party tickets during the 2009 Assembly elections. Stating that nobody would trust the PRP president and his greedy brother-in-law, Mr Shiv Shankar questioned whether extorting money from ticket aspirants was social justice? Mr Shiv Shankar also expressed his agony at the plight of the Congress party for seeking an alliance with the PRP on bended knees.
Faulting the visit of the Defence Minister, Mr A K Antony, as an emissary of the Congress president, to the residence of a small fry like Mr Chiranjeevi, the former Union minister said a visit by the PCC president to Mr Chiranjeevi’s house would have been more than enough. He also expressed his shock at Ms Sonia Gandhi inviting Mr Chiranjeevi for talks in New Delhi. (NSS)
