Pullela Ramachandrudu to get ‘Telugu Bharati’ award

Hyderabad: Dr. Pullela Ramachanddrudu, well known litterateur and honorary Vice Chancellor of the Osmania University has been selected for the prestigious ‘Telugu Bharati Award’ for the year 2011 by the CP Brown Academy.

Dr. Ramachandrudu, apart from being an academician, has also done excellent work in various form of literature. He has translated more than 80 books from Sanscrit, Hindi and English in to Telugu. He has published over 120 books. Apart from writing on such literary features such as ‘Itihasam’ ‘Vyakaranam,’ ‘Alankaram,’ ancient history and Philosophy, he has also written an authoritative connotation to ‘Valmiki’s ‘Ramayana.’ He has translated several Sanskrit works into Telugu. The central government has recently honoured him with ‘Padma Sri’. Ramachandrudu was also an executive member of the Central Sahitya Academy.

Under the Telugu Bharati award, Ramachandrudu would get Rs. 2.5 lakhs in cash, a gold medal and a citation, said Academy Assistant Manager Ms. Padmaja. She said the award would be handed over to him during April, 2011. (NSS)
