Hyderabad: Pointing out that making of statues and getting statues installed is strictly prohibited under Islam, Telangana Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee has given an ultimatum to the State Government to remove the three statues of Muslim personalities on the Tank Bund in the city within one month.

The JAC Convenor Mr Mohd Amanullah Khan, in a statement here, said that if the statues were not removed within one months’ time, he, along with like-minded Muslim brethren, would break them into pieces and throw them away into the Hussain Sagar. He contended that the three Muslim statues were erected forcibly by late N T Rama Rao when he was the Chief Minister, following which he had resigned from the TDP in protest.

Mr Khan said that Islam had prohibited statues, because there is a danger of the statues might lead the Muslims back to Idol worship. He said that the installation of the statues forcibly was a proof that the Seemandhra Chief Ministers do not understand the Islamic traditions and their culture. (NSS)
