For a smooth flow of traffic during the construction of metro rail, the Hyderabad Metro Rail, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, National Highways Authority of India and the state roads buildings department have initiated several preparatory works on priority stretches. According to HMR managing director NVS Reddy, roads will be barricaded to a width of 26 feet (8 metres) between Nagole and Mettuguda (8 km) on Metro Rail CorridorIII, and between Miyapur and Ameerpet (12 km) on CorridorI from January to start the pillar and viaduct construction works.
HMR has completed more than half of the RCC pipe drain work in place of the existing open nala from the Nagole bridge to the Hyderabad nala for a length of 600 metres at a cost of Rs 40 lakh. This will add two more lanes to the carriage way. Similarly, widening of one minor bridge and three culverts at a cost of Rs 42 lakh is in progress.
HMR has broadened and remodelled the Uppal junction at a cost of `10 lakh and will lay an alternative road along the Hyderabad nala to Ramantapur for a distance of 1.2 km at a cost of Rs 1.77 crore to ease congestion on the main corridor.
The GHMC has started replacing the central lighting poles with ‘side lighting poles’ between Nagole and Mettuguda. HMR will bear the cost of Rs 2.52 crore. It also completed about 50 percent of RCC storm water drain work from the Kukatpally ‘Y’ junction to the bus depot at a cost of Rs 49 lakh to cover the open drain and get an additional carriage way.
Reddy said NHAI authorities agreed to central alignment of Metro Rail all along the NH9 stretch between Miyapur and LB Nagar. HMR will pay for laying one additional lane on each side of the NH carriage way and also for land acquisition for widening and other improvement works.
