Hyderabad, Feb.9 (NSS): The State unit of Republican Party of India has decided to launch an agitation from February 14 at Mandal and District headquarters, demanding the Government to allocate funds in the Budget on population basis for implementation of the Special Component Plan and Tribal Sub-plan, and stop diversion of the funds for other programmes.

Addressing the media here on Wednesday, Mr Bojja Tharakam, State President of the party, said that it was unfortunate that since the last 30 years, the Central and State Government were deceiving the SCs and STs by not allocating the stipulated budget on the basis of their population, and by diverting even the meager funds allotted in the Budgets. On the basis of 2001 population figures, 16.2 per cent of the Budget should be earmarked for SCs and seven per cent for STs and the amounts should be spent only for the welfare of these sections.

He alleged that the allocation of funds and diversion of funds has assumed alarming proportions during the last two decades. During the period 2002 – 2010, the allocation for SCs should have been Rs.35,575.37 crores; but only Rs.26,333 crores was shown and out of this, only Rs.17,798 crores was spent, while Rs.8,534 crore was diverted. He said the diversion of funds was started by the Telugu Desam Party Government and the Congress was also resorting to it.

He said it was decided to organise demonstrations at Mandal level from February 14 to 19; and at District Centres from February 21 to 26, and present memorandum to the concerned authorities, demanding release of funds and justice to the SC and ST people. (NSS).
