As part of awareness campaign for the proposed world’s tallest statue (182 meter) of former Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, position to come up near Narmada Dam in Gujarat, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta Trust of Gujarat organized ‘run for unity’, a two-km run at 565 different locations, including Hyderabad, in the country today.
Coinciding with the flagging-off the ‘run for Unity in Vadodara by Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP Prime Ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, Andhra Pradesh unit BJP President Kishan Reddy flagged off the run at Necklace Road in the state capital witnessed by former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman, celebrities and noted personalities from different walks of life.
Several BJP leaders, including BJP National Council Member and former Union Minister Ch Vidyasagar Rao participated in the run.
Similar programmes were organised in 170 municipalities across the state to collect iron scrap that would be used in the construction of the statue.
For this about 40 lakh people have registered their names through the web-site across the country and of them 16,000 were from Andhra Pradesh– 5,000 from Hyderabad alone.
