Hyderabad, Feb.12 (NSS): The Home Minister, Ms Sabitha Indra Reddy on Saturday said that compensation would be provided within two days to the journalists who were injured in the cane charge by the police on the Osmania University Campus in the agitations related to the Telangana stir in February last.
The Minister gave an assurance in this connection to the journalists affiliated to the Telangana Working Journalists Union, who met her under the leadership of Mr Somaiah, President, to express their unhappiness over the non- payment of compensation even after one year.
They also urged the minister to provide compensation for the damage caused to the media equipment and vehicles. She said that the officials were making all arrangements to provide a compensation amount of Rs 7.80 lakh to those journalists who had suffered due to the high handed action of the police against them.
The journalists also warned that they would take to agitations from February 15, if the State government has failed to provide succor to them. (NSS)
