Satyam case: CBI gives up 189 witnesses

Posted by on July 5, 2011 0 Comment

In its eagerness to do its part and ensure the early completion of the trial in the Satyam scam case, the CBI on Monday gave up as many as 189 witnesses whom it listed earlier in the trial court as persons to be examined. This is the second such large-scale relinquishment the investigating agency resorted to ever since the Supreme Court directed the trial court to complete the trial by July 31. Earlier, the CBI has given up 240 witnesses.

So far, the trial court has recorded the witnesses of 211 persons produced by the prosecution as its witnesses. Almost all of them were cross-examined by the defence team pertaining to the company’s disgraced chairman B Ramalinga Raju and his co accused in the case. Now, only 15 investigating officers are remaining to be examined. Of this, 4 belong to CBCID and 11 belong to CBI.

After that, the defence team may unfold its strategies to defend the accused and to refute the charges levelled by the prosecution. TOI
