Hyderabad: Thanks to the efforts of Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) C V Anand, the congested roads in the city will be eased soon if the training given to 6000 students yields desired and sustained results.

According to Mr Anand, the school students will monitor and regulate vehicular traffic near schools with the city traffic police inducting about 6,000 school ‘traffic commandos’ from now onwards.

Viewing the skills of trained commandos at Lal Bahadur Stadium on Thursday, the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said that sporting red jackets as uniforms, the high school students will arrive at the respective schools a bit early to regulate vehicular traffic in the mornings and in the evenings after the school hours.

He said that each school will have 25 school traffic commandos and everyday five students would monitor traffic on shift basis. Students from over 300 schools in the city were trained by traffic constables about road safety and traffic rules for a month.

Braving the continuous drizzle, over 6,000 school traffic commandos participated in traffic drills at the Lal Bahadur Stadium.

The students exhibited their skills in regulating traffic in a mock three-road and four-road junctions.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner AK Khan, film actor Srikanth and state Bank of Hyderabad Managing Director Renu Challa participated in the programme.(INN)
