Hyderabad: Anticipating disturbances and agitations, the police on Saturday banned all kinds of rallies and processions within a radius of two kilometres of the state Assembly, the state Secretariat, the Chief Minister’s Camp Office and the Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy Collectorates, under Section 144.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner AK Khan said that the ban has been enforced after reliable information was brought to his notice that “certain groups are trying to create disturbances affecting public peace and order in the city.”

The ban, imposed with a view to maintain public order, peace and tranquillity in Hyderabad City and taking into view the present Law and Order situation and security scenario.

Mr Khan said that imposition of Section 144 within the radius of 2 KM of the cited buildings would mean that the police has prohibited every kind of procession, dharna, rally or public meetings. Besides this, the police also prohibited any individual/groups of individuals from making any speech, gesture or displaying pictures, symbols, placards, flags etc., which is likely to create religious animosity or hatred between different communities or individuals or is likely to cause disturbance to the public peace and order.(INN)
