Hyderabad: Secunderabad Member of Parliament M. Anjan Kumar Yadav’s niece was found dead under mysterious circumstances with serious burns at her house in Raidurgam near Gachibowli on Sunday evening.
B. Mayuri was the daughter of the MP’s brother M. Raghu Kumar Yadav.
While Mayuri’s parents alleged that she was murdered by her husband Arjun Yadav and his family members, the in-laws maintained that she committed suicide. Relatives of the victim attacked Arjun’s house and the latter’s family members too retaliated.
Mayuri’s brother Manoj Yadav told The Hindu that they received a call around 6 p.m. stating that Mayuri had committed suicide by setting herself ablaze. “We rushed to her house and found her body in the bedroom. We suspect she was murdered by her in-laws,” he said.
According to Manoj, Mayuri got married to Arjun five years ago and the couple have three children. Manoj alleged that Arjun and his parents started harassing Mayuri for additional dowry within a few months of her marriage.
“We gave gold jewellery, cash and other articles at the time of marriage,” he said. Mayuri’s parents apparently gave money to Arjun on several occasions to “settle” problems between the couple. Police inquiries revealed that the two families were at loggerheads ever since the marriage and on some occasions the community elders intervened and pacified them.
ACP (Madhapur) K. Goverdhan Reddy said a case of dowry death under Section 304-B of IPC was registered against Arjun and his family and further investigations were on.
