Hyderabad: A day after the APSRTC announced a fare hike hoping to save the corporation from its loss, it suffered another jolt in the form of employees’ strike notice.
On Friday afternoon, Telangana employees of three RTC unions, APSRTCNMU, RTC Employees’ Unions and RTC Telangana state JAC, called on MD B Prasada Rao and served a strike notice.
The representatives of the unions told the MD that if Telangana state is not announced by the end of July, they will go for an indefinite strike from August 1.
The reason for the worry is not just the strike notice but the poor public response during the previous hike.
After a steep hike of fares in early 2010, the Occupancy Ratio (OR) of the APSRTC bus services had come down from 72 per cent to 65 per cent. The current OR of the corporation stands at 74 per cent and due to a fare hike, the RTC expects the OR to fall further. TOI
