Hyderabad, Feb.19 (NSS): Suspecting Rs 70 to Rs 100 crores scam in the AP State SC Finance Corporation and ST Finance Corporation, the Minister for Handlooms and Textiles, Dr P Shanker Rao, has said he would write to the Director of Vigilance and Enforcement for holding an inquiry into the matter.

Speaking to mediapersons in the Secretariat on Saturday, Dr Shanker Rao reminded that the SC Finance Corporation and ST Finance Corporation were extending financial assistance and subsidy to SCs and STs for self-employment. As per rules, the vehicles purchased by the SCs and STs under the scheme should bear words “Financed by SC or ST Finance Corporation”, he said, adding that he did not find a single vehicle in Hyderabad with such words written on them. The situation was similar in the districts also, he added.

“Some persons were taking loans from the Finance Corporation in the name of gullible SCs and STs and deriving financial benefit. It was nothing but a scam. In this scam, some Rs 70 crores to Rs 100 crores of subsidy amount reached non-eligible persons i.e. non SCs and non-STs. Therefore, I decided to write a letter to the Vigilance and Enforcement department to inquire into the loans taken from the SC, ST FiancĂ© Corporations in the last ten years”, he added.

Coming down heavily on the BJP national leader, Mr L K Advani, the minister said the BJP leaders, whose origin was Pakistan, have no moral right to criticize the Congress supremo, Ms Sonia Gandhi. He demanded that the BJP leader tender an unconditional apology to Ms Gandhi for his remarks, otherwise, Mr Advani’s name would be scripted in the history in black letters. The people of the country would not forgive Mr Advani for his comments against Ms Sonia Gandhi, who declined PM’s post twice.

Dr Shanker Rao also condemned the remarks made by the Kadapa former MP, Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy that Kiran Kumar Reddy government has no moral right to continue. He suggested Mr Jagan to follow footsteps of his late father YSR instead of his grand father. (NSS)
