Hyderabad: The Assembly Speaker, Mr Nadendla Manohar, will take a final call on the mass resignations submitted by over 100 Telangana MLAs in the second week of August. Sources said the Speaker is not in a hurry to accept the resignations as he wants to follow procedures before taking any decision. Mr Manohar who returned here on Friday afternoon after a 16-day tour abroad and Delhi, had a meeting with the Deputy Speaker, Mr Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and the legislature secretary, Mr Raja Sadaaram, to whom several MLAs submitted their resignations while he was out of station. The Deputy Speaker handed over all the letters received by him to the Speaker.
Mr Manohar before reaching state had a meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker, Ms Meira Kumar, in Delhi. While he was in Delhi in connection with the Saarc Parliamentary Conference for three days, Mr Manohar studied in depth the relevant rules and procedure, conventions, and precedents followed in Parliament while dealing with resignations of members. Sources said Ms Meira had told him that she will take steps to consider the resignation letters submitted by nine Congress MPs belonging to Telangana before the Monsoon Session of Parliament begins from August 1. She told him that she never told the media that resignations will be accepted before August 1. However, sources said Mr Manohar will tour his Tenali Constituency from Sunday, and leave for London on July 22 to attend the Centenary celebrations of Commonwealth organisations for six days and then tour Russia, Austria and US before returning around August 10.
