Hyderabad: The Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly Mr N Manohar toying with the idea to disqualify the five MLAs, came in for criticism from the senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Mr Ch. Vidyasagar Rao today.
Speaking to the media here, long with BJP Telangana struggle committee deputy chairman Mr C Ashok Kumar, Mr Rao said the office of the Speaker should uphold and respect the basic values and added that if he disqualified the five MLAs, it would be undemocratic. Though the Deputy Speaker belongs to the Congress party, as stated by the Chief Minister, he has a responsibility to safeguard the respect that the Speaker’s office enjoys. Such decisions when by-elections are taking place in the State, are bound to have some impact on the elections, he felt.
The BJP leader said that the disqualification would have an impact on the on-going by-elections, the Election Commission should take note it. The Speaker’s office should not get the bad name of violating the Election code, he added.
Referring to the PCC President Mr Srinivas’s allegation that Mr Jagan had colluded with the BJP in the present by-elections, Mr Vidyasagar Rao said that Mr Srinivas has the habit of remembering the BJP whenever there are elections. (NSS)
