Spurious bottled water Jars seized

Hyderabad: Officials of Bureau of Indian Standards have raided Messrs VG Beverages, Kukatpally industrial estate under Balanagar mandal of Ranga Reddy district and seized a large quantity of 20 liter pet Jars filled with packaged drinking water with brand names “Oxican, Icy, Blu, Rithu, Jahnavi, Frost, Tarang, Aqua Fresh, Mackaw, Bibo” with spurious BIS standard Mark.

These products were being used by common consumers, BIS officials stated, adding that action was initiated against the offenders under the BIS Act of 1986. The offence is punishable by imprisonment up to one year or a fine upto 50,000 or both.

The BIS scientist-F and Director, Mr B Ramakrishna Rao, appealed to the general public to note that use of BIS certification mark without a valid license was a violation of BIS Certification Marks Act and the user is likely to be prosecuted.

They may give information about any misuse of ISI mark to Bureau of Indian Standards, M4 Block, First floor, Manoranjan Complex, APHB Building, MJ Road, Hyderabad on phone Nos. 24731082, 24731085. (NSS)
