Stop Green Hunt Operation: Vara Vara Rao

Hyderabad: The Operation Green Hunt Vyatireka Porata Committee has demanded that the Union government immediately stop Green Hunt Operation and withdraw Army and paramilitary forces from Jangal Mahal of West Bengal to Dandakaranya of Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, the Revolutionary Writer, Mr Vara Vara Rao, alleged that the Centre has declared all-out war against the tribal people in the name of the Green Hunt Operation from Jangal Mahal to the Dandakaranya. He demanded that Chhattisgarh government immediately implement the Supreme Court’s orders that ‘Salwa Judum’ be disbanded. He also demanded that the Chhattisgarh government withdraw ‘Salwa Judum’ forces and provide rehabilitation to its members. He urged the Centre not to file a review petition against Supreme Court judgment on Salwa Judum. He also demanded that the Chhattisgarh government order an inquiry into the attacks and murders of tribals by Salwa Judum forces and take stern action against them.

The committee convener, Mr Kranti Chaitanya, has demanded revocation of death sentence awarded to Jeeten Marandi, Anil Ram, Manoj Rajwar and Chhatrapati Mandal, on the charge of killing 19 people in 2007. He said the Giridih district and sessions court in Jharkhand had pronounced death sentence to the accused, who were only cultural artistes engaged in creating awareness among the tribal people about their rights and responsibilities. He also demanded that the death sentences be revoked and the activists released immediately. He claimed that “Jeetan is a well-known Adivasi Cultural artiste and leader of Jharkhand Abhen, a cultural organization.

Mr Kranti Chaitanya demanded that the State government immediately release the Kula Nirmula Porata Samiti State president, Mr Duddu Prabhakar, who disappeared on July 13 at the Visakhapatnam Bus Station. He alleged that Mr Prabhakar was kidnapped by the Visakhapatnam Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Brahmaiah, and demanded that the government produce him before any court in the State. He also criticized the Home Minister, Ms Sabita Indra Reddy, and the Director General of Police, Mr V. Dinesh Reddy, for neglecting to trace whereabouts of Prabhakar.
