Hyderabad: The indefinite hunger strike undertaken by the Osmania University students entered fourth day on Thursday. The OU doctors visited the fast camp of the students and examined the condition of the fasting students.

Doctors said there was change in blood pressure and sodium levels of some of the students. They said some students were also suffering from high temperature. Five students were rushed to the Gandhi Hospital on Wednesday, following deterioration of their condition. While two more students needed hospitalization urgently, some of the students were rejecting medical help, they added.

The OU JAC leaders, Mr Pidamarti Ravi, Mr Vijay, Mr Rajaram Yadav and Mr Mandala Bhaskar, have said they would not withdraw their fast until there was a specific assurance from the Union government on Telangana. They said Ms Sonia Gandhi should decide whether she wants them to lay down their lives or concede Telangana. The students have called for people’s support to make the “Chalo Assembly” planned on July 15 a success.

Meanwhile, Mr Nehru Naik Vasudeva Reddy and Mr Vishnu Sekhar of the Kakatiya University have also been shifted to the Gandhi Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
