Hyderabad, Feb.21 (NSS): The raging Telangana crisis virtually turned the State Capital into a cauldron as the students and other separatists went berserk in their attempts to lay a siege to the State Assembly on Monday forcing the police to lob teargas and repeated lathi-charges at different places.

In the violent incidents, one MMTS train was set ablaze at the Jamai Osmania Railway Station while another Railway station was ransacked on the Necklace Road. The police and the agitators were engaged in a ding dong battle at many places, especially in the Osmania University Campus, which once again turned into a violent battle ground.

A number of students, including many girls, were injured in the lathi-charge while scores of policemen sustained injuries in the stone-pelting incidents. Scores of students were also arrested from different places when they tried to break the heavy police cordon in an attempt to proceed towards the Assembly as part of their ” Assembly Muttadi ” programme.

Earlier, the Telangana JAC convenor, Prof. Kodandaram, flagged off the students’ rally from the Osmania University campus following “Chalo Assembly” call given by the OU Students JAC. However, tension gripped the campus when the security personnel stopped the rally. However, the students split into two groups and one of them tried to go towards the Adikmet flyover. The policemen not only foiled their attempts but also caned them and lobbed tear gas shells. Another group of students proceed towards the NCC gate where they were stopped.

The irate students resorted to stone throwing at the police personnel at Ladies Hostel as well as at the Nizam College. The police resorted to lathi-charge and lobbed tear gas to disperse the unruly students. As a result some 15 students suffered grievous injuries. The police also arrested some 12 students in this connection.

Meanwhile, as the students vent their ire at the Railway stations, the SCR authorities cancelled the MMTS trains between Falaknuma and Secunderabad and closed the reservation counters. (NSS)
