Hyderabad: The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata SC Morcha on Friday urged the National SC Commission Chairman, New Delhi to direct the Andhra Pradesh government to suspend Sangareddy deputy superintendent of police Sunkara Satyanarayana and bring to book one Prabhakar and his son for abetment of suicide by a Madiga boy Ramulu on April 5.
In a memorandum faxed to the National SC Commission chairman today, the State Bharatiya Janata SC Morcha president, Mr K Ramulu, stated that the deceased of Madiga community and the main culprit K Prabhakar of Padmashali community were neighbours in Prashanth Nagar Colony in Sangareddy of Medak district. Meanwhile, the deceased Ramulu and Prabhakar’s daughter Priyanka fell in love and wanted to marry. When the girl reportedly told her parents that she wanted to marry Ramulu, they bluntly rejected her proposal stating that the boy is a Madiga and warned her against her love affair.
As her parents opposed their marriage proposal, the girl eloped with the boy and got married in the temple of Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy at Yadagirigutta on October 22, 2010. Next day, the couple approached the SHO of Sangareddy rural police seeking protection to their life and liberty from the girl’s parents. Immediately, the SHO informed the girl’s parents and the Sangareddy DSP about the couple’s arrival and plea for police protection.
On October 29, 2010, in a representation, the deceased Ramulu alleged that he was abused in the name of caste in the police station by Priyanka’s parents. Besides, the SI allegedly beat up the boy severely and sent the girl along with her parents. The deceased alleged that the DSP Sunkara Satyanarayana, who also belongs to Padmashali caste, threatened the boy that he would kill him in an encounter if he did not leave the girl. Apart from abusing the boy taking his caste name, the DSP allegedly used third degree methods to intimidate him.
When his representations to the National SC Commission and State Human Rights Commission evoked no response, the victim attempted suicide on November 1, 2010 by climbing a BSNL tower which was widely covered by print and electronic media. However, the boy gave up when the district Superintendent of Police assured him of justice. Apart from his efforts to meet his wife (Priyanka) proved futile, the DSP Sunkara Satyanarayana stepped up mental pressure threatening that he would be physically liquidated in a stage-managed encounter, the victim succumbed to pressure and committed suicide on April 5, 2011 on the premises of Tara Degree College grounds and left a suicide note in his pocket stating that the DSP Sunkara Satyanarayana, Prabhakar and his son Raja were responsible for his death.
The BJP SC Morcha leader has stated that though the deceased’s mother Sundaramma lodged complaints with the Sangareddy Rural PS and the SP on April 6, the police took no action at the instance of the DSP. Apart from suspension of Sunkara Satyanarayana for his direct abetment of suicide, the SC Morcha leader demanded transfer of the CI and SI of the Sangareddy Rural PS to ensure fair and impartial investigation into the case. He also demanded that the DSP and K Prabhakar and his son K Raju be immediately arrested and booked under provisions of SCs & STs (POA) 1989 and IPC.
